Why level comes first

Tile is rigid. Over dips and rises each piece settles at its own angle, and neighbouring edges stop meeting.

Built from the ground up

Level substrate

Tile performs best over a substrate that is clean, sound, and within a practical tolerance for the selected format. We check for unevenness and movement before layout begins, then address low spots or transitions with the appropriate preparation approach. A flatter, more stable plane helps grout joints and finished edges read consistently.

Waterproofing & crack isolation

Wet areas need a continuous water-management approach behind and around the finished tile. Where the conditions call for it, a compatible waterproofing layer is detailed at changes of plane, penetrations, and transitions. Crack-isolation preparation can also help account for limited movement in an otherwise suitable surface.

Full-coverage setting

Bond begins with a clean surface, a suitable setting material, and an organized trowel pattern. Large-format tile may need back-buttering so its underside receives more consistent contact. Each piece is placed with attention to coverage, alignment, and a stable bed rather than being forced into place.

Layout & cuts

Good layout considers the room from more than one doorway or focal wall. We dry-plan the field, joint lines, and edge pieces before committing to the pattern. Careful cuts at walls, fixtures, and transitions help the finished surface look intentional rather than merely filled in.

Grout, caulk & sealing

Grout is installed after the setting material has had time to firm up, then the surface is cleaned with care for the tile finish. Changes of plane are typically treated with a flexible sealant rather than rigid grout. Some natural stone and cementitious grout may also call for a compatible sealer as part of regular care.

How we work

Tell Us About Your Project

Share the room, your approximate timing, and anything you already know about the tile. We use those details to start a practical conversation.

On-Site Measure & Estimate

We look at the actual space, take measurements, and discuss tile, pattern, edges, and transitions. The estimate is based on conditions we can see.

Surface Preparation

Before setting tile, we address the substrate and plan the work sequence. Preparation may include removal, leveling, waterproofing, or transition work as the space requires.

Tile Installation

Layout lines guide the field tile, cuts, and joint alignment. We keep the work area orderly while the surface takes shape one measured section at a time.

Grout, Seal & Walkthrough

After the tile has set, we grout, complete appropriate finish details, and clean the surface. We then walk through the finished work and care considerations with you.

Questions, answered

Good tile work begins with clear answers. Here are a few things to know before we visit.

Have another question?
What affects the cost of tile installation in the Chicago area?

The size of the space is only part of the scope. Existing floor conditions, removal, substrate repairs, waterproofing, tile dimensions, pattern, access and trim details all affect the work. An on-site measure lets us discuss these conditions before preparing a written estimate.

What types of tile do you install?

Projects may use ceramic, porcelain, large-format porcelain, natural stone, mosaics and glass. Each material needs a compatible setting system and suitable substrate. We review the tile specifications, intended use and maintenance needs with you before installation.

Who supplies the tile?

Tell us whether you have already selected or purchased your tile. We can review dimensions, intended use and quantities with you. The written project scope will identify who is supplying tile, trim, setting materials and other components before work begins.

Do you take on small tile jobs?

Share the room, approximate dimensions and a few details about what needs to be done. Small floors, backsplashes and repair requests can involve very different preparation needs. We will discuss the scope, access and scheduling before confirming whether the job is a fit.

How should I prepare the room?

Remove small belongings and breakable items, and arrange a clear route to the work area. Before the start date, we will discuss furniture, appliances, plumbing fixtures, dust control and which responsibilities belong to each party. Keep children and pets away from the work zone.

Is there a workmanship warranty?

Ask us to explain the written workmanship terms for your specific project before approving the estimate. Coverage, exclusions and maintenance responsibilities should be clear in the agreement. Tile and setting-material manufacturers may have separate product terms.
